We are excited to report that on the 24th-26th of May, three delegates from the Cyprus Regional Organising Committee (CyROC) participated in the 2024 Annual Conference of the Wales, Ireland, Scotland and England Regional Administration (WISE-RA) of the IWW. This was CyROC’s first time taking part in an IWW Conference since our formation.

The first day started off with reports from international delegations, were our CyROC delegates presented a short report of our journey thus far, as well as the political climate in Cyprus shining light on the most recent news. Following, were reports from the German Language Area Membership Regional Organising Committee (GlamROC), IWW Poland, and Australasian Regional Organising Committee (AusROC). Then, followed a presentation on the life and organising of a fellow Wobbly and Earth First member Judi Bari. After the presentation there were reports from the branches in Ireland, Manchester, Clydeside, and London.

The second day was a productive day were two motions were passed. There were also interesting and thought provoking presentations regarding decolonising the NGO Médecins Sans Frontières, organising African migrant care workers by the Pan-African Workers’ Association (PAWA), and organising efforts of domestic workers in Turkey, amongst others. Besides the presentations there were breakout sessions discussing the Union’s affiliation with the ICL-CIT as well as area organising. Spoken poetry was a pleasant break from all the presentations, as well.

The third day was an interesting day as well. Even though our delegates had to come back to the island, they were able to read and listen to material presented during the day.

We would like to thank everyone who helped organise such an endeavour. We would also like to highlight the hospitality, solidarity, and comradeship our delegates felt during the conference. The socialising at the end of each day, the heartfelt discussions, and the deep connections built, were a relief and a reminder that something great is possible.

One Big Union!
