Uva Non Grata (Latin for 'ungrateful grapes') refers to the historical downgrading of Gamay while Pinot Noir became the ascendant of the two grapes in Burgundy. Gamay loves the granite siliceous soils of the vineyards in the hills to the north west of Lyon
