Vergelegen, V Vintage:2013A blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% each of Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot, the 2013 V starts with focused red and black fruits on the nose with integrated oak. The palate shows control and balance with rusticity. The finish is tight and reminiscent of a Super Tuscan with a full bodied expression that will age for decades.

There is interesting Chablis-like nuances of iodine and quinine present on the more citrusinflected nose of lemongrass and acacia blossom

It was matured in the oak for 16 months

There is a lovely sense of energy to the delineated medium weight flavors that exhibit more evident minerality that is particularly apparent on the mildly austere finale where a hint of bitter cherry appears

Note that this should drink well relatively early on

and it shows more of an emphasis on tannin than fruit

ripe and well-layered nose combines notes of various dark berries with those of spice

but no such luck

The medium plum-colored 1999 Monbrison displays elegant

The palate is medium to full-bodied with gorgeous plush tannins and balancing freshness supporting the boldly spicy black fruit preserves

As big as this is

In 2016 this excellent effort is more Nuits than Vosne in style
